Hosting a Galentine's Event

Posted on February 9th, 2023 | By Jen Marren | In Celebrate

Looking to celebrate your girl gang and spread the love? A Galentine’s Day party is the answer! While not classified as a “real” holiday, we are grateful to Leslie Knopp for showing us what her favorite February tradition is all about – “Ladies celebrating ladies.” The best part is that there is no right or wrong way to celebrate. Just grab your gal pals and have a good time!

Tips for Hosting Your Own Galentine’s Day Event

Define the vibe. Before you dive into the planning process, defining what kind of soiree you want to host is a must. Pick something that doesn’t create much work but something you know your crew will love. One "vibe idea" I have is a "Glam Galentines" for those who want to do more than lounge and eat pizza. Invite the girls, book a makeup artist, and have fun getting glammed up to go NOWHERE! No one needs a reason to look fabulous, be your reason! Set up a photo booth, stage your couch in a spot with lots of light, and buy some fun props! (Pro-Tip: create a backdrop wall by purchasing heart-shaped balloons and sticking them to your wall.)

The four-letter word no one ever wants to forget – FOOD. Avoid the stress of trying to please everyone by going potluck and ask your friends to bring a dish to pass or give them suggestions based on a fun-themed menu you have planned. Planning to binge your favorite 90s rom-coms? Then popcorn and candy are a must! Ask your guests what some of their favorite movie snacks are, and make a popcorn bar! Personalize each popcorn bucket with your friend's favorite snacks to add a special extra touch. Pinterest has tons of adorable food bar ideas!

If themes aren’t your thing, but you still want that WOW factor that shows off your mixology skills – greet your guests with a fun welcome cocktail! Add a fun little touch to your beverage of choice by adding just a touch of this cocktail glitter: Cocktail Glitter Kits! These are super fun and a sure way to get the party started! Have your home bar set up with fun garnishes or these cocktail glitter sets to take your drinks to the next level!

Music is a must! You know your group best, craft your own Galentine’s Day playlist or browse Spotify for some already banging playlists! Is it just me, or is anyone else signing Celine Dion in their head right now?

Though cheesy, you don’t want to forget to express your love for your gal pals! A handwritten note is a nice gesture and a keepsake to cherish forever. I would put this in place of favors for a sentimental touch! As an activity, you could even set up a little area to write love notes to your loved ones.

Last but certainly not least, ENJOY! As we already discovered above, Galentine’s Day is just another reason to get together with your favorite gals. Don’t let the tiny details overwhelm you or think you need the picture-perfect setup. Pick up the phone, call your girlfriends – it can be as simple as that! And do yourself a favor, go watch Season 2, Episode 16 from Parks & Recreation, to give Leslie Knopp the credit she deserves for creating this beautiful, empowering holiday.
